    The General Information Authority organized, on Tuesday in Tripoli, in cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), a national consultative workshop on the draft national policy for the proposed digital accessibility for persons with disabilities in the State of Libya, in the presence of the President of the Authority, Eng. Abdul Basit Al-Baour, the President of the General Authority for Media Content Monitoring, Dr. Jalal Othman, the President of the National Authority for Information Security and Safety, Eng. Salah Al-Din Al-Tabini, the Director General of the Planning Institute, Dr. Taher Abu Al-Hassan, and the President of the Al-Noor Association for the Blind, Dr. Saleh. Al-Tayeb, representatives of the Libyan Organization for the Rights of the Visually Impaired in Benghazi, a group of directors general of sectoral information and documentation centers, a group of representatives of the targeted governmental and private institutions, experts, specialists and those interested in the topic of the workshop, and via zoom technology, Dr. Nepal Adlebi, Acting Director of the ESCWA Committee, and Dr. Mohamed Nawar Al-Awa, Regional Advisor to the ESCWA Committee.
    During the opening of the workshop, the Chairman of the General Information Authority explained that the Authority is working on preparing the national policy for digital accessibility within the framework of the digital transformation strategy and in line with the sustainable development goals, and is making efforts to enable all citizens to access technology and Internet services, including persons with disabilities.
    For her part, Dr. Nibal Idlebi, Acting Director of ESCWA, stressed in her opening speech online that the topic of digital accessibility in this digital age has become a pivotal issue that has a significant impact on all aspects of life.
    During the first scientific session of the workshop, Dr. Nawar Al-Awa, Regional Advisor for Technology for Development at ESCWA, reviewed the concepts and tools of e-accessibility and its best practices, and Dr. Mirna Al-Haj Berber, Coordinator of the Arab Digital Inclusion Platform project at ESCWA, presented a lecture entitled (The Arab Digital Inclusion Platform for Digital Inclusion Project ADIP) in which she explained the mechanism of the platform’s work.
    During the second scientific session, Dr. Moussa Fenir, Consultant at ESCWA, gave a presentation on the proposed national policy for e-accessibility in Libya, in which he addressed the vision, objectives and axes.
    The workshop witnessed meaningful interventions and discussions on the draft national policy for e-accessibility for persons with disabilities.
    It is noteworthy that DEWA prepared the draft national policy for e-accessibility in cooperation with ESCWA, as part of its endeavor to create the appropriate environment to facilitate the access of people with disabilities to digital services and make optimal use of them.
