Today, Wednesday, the General Information Authority, in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), organized a workshop on the proposed plan to develop and implement the national policy for digital accessibility in the State of Libya and the stages that the Authority has reached in this context, this is within the framework of concerted national and international efforts to prepare this policy and enable people with disabilities to use digital tools, applications and services.
The workshop, which aimed to discuss the proposed framework for the national policy for digital accessibility in the State of Libya, which will be implemented in cooperation with ESCWA, was attended by the Authority’s technical advisor, Dr. Abdul Raouf Al-Bibbas, and a number of general directors of sector information and documentation centers, and via Zoom, the regional advisor. (For ESCWA) Dr. Muhammad Nawar Al-Awa, directors of departments and offices at the Commission, and representatives of a number of relevant government agencies and institutions.
The workshop highlighted the main concepts of digital accessibility policies, how to benefit from their interactive tools and technical standards, in addition to the components of the national digital accessibility policy, and the national priorities in preparing and implementing this policy, including conducting an opinion poll on the digital accessibility requirements of people with special needs, and benefiting from the models launched by ESCWA within the framework of the Arab Platform for Digital Inclusion project.
It is noteworthy that this policy came in implementation of the vision of the General Information Authority, which aims to build a comprehensive and integrated digital environment that provides equal access to opportunities and services for all segments of society.
It should be noted that the State of Libya signed the CRPD Agreement in May 2008, and it was ratified in February 2018.
