The Prime Minister, the head of the Central Committee for the Seventh General Population Census and other accompanying censuses, Eng. Abdel Hamid Al-Dabaiba, stressed the need for coordination between the General information authority, the Civil Status Authority and the Statistics and Census Authority, as they work under one umbrella, which is the Central Census Committee, pointing to the need to launch the seventh population census that has not been completed since 2006.
During his chairmanship today, Monday, of the first meeting of the Central Committee for the seventh general population census and other accompanying censuses, the Prime Minister emphasized the reference of the national number in the work of the committee, and the necessity of joining efforts and considering the seventh population census as an essential building block in the formation of a database that contributes to building the country, especially in the electoral process, and to clarify the criteria for distributing wealth to all the Libyan people.
The Central Committee for the Seventh General Population Census and other accompanying censuses reviewed, in this meeting, which it held at the headquarters of the General information authority, and in the presence of its members, the Ministers of Planning and Interior, the head of the general information authority, the Head of the Civil Status Authority, and the Head of the Statistics and Census Authority, the steps for implementing the population census and the timetable set for its implementation.
The general population census and other accompanying censuses are a general framework for conducting various studies and research related to population, economic establishments, agricultural and industrial censuses, social and health surveys, and household expenditure and income surveys. The meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Prime Minister and Cabinet Affairs, Eng. Adel Jumaa, and a group of specialists in the concerned institutions.
It is worth noting that Cabinet Resolution No. 478 of 2022 regarding conducting the general population census and other accompanying censuses stipulated in its fifth article the formation of a central committee for the census headed by the Prime Minister, and the membership of each of the Ministers of Planning, Local Government, Interior, the head of the General information authority, the head of the Civil Status Authority, and the head of the Statistics and Census Authority.
